About This Data
This experience visualizes the first-ever detected binary black hole merger, GW150914, captured by LIGO on September 14, 2015. The 42-second video simulation shows the inspiral, merger, and ringdown phases synchronized with audio and haptic feedback.
Video simulation courtesy of the Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes (SXS) Project and the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics. The audio represents the gravitational wave strain data time-dilated and pitch-shifted for human perception.
